REVIEW: LOWENBRAU BIERHAUS

Taste-bud-teasing, tummy-tempting, mouth-melting menu choices will make you salivate in anticipation in this uniquely charming German-themed restaurant. We had received numerous recommendations about the Bierhaus, being told it is a one-of-a-kind establishment, with food unlike anything else in Tbilisi. We just had to check it out ourselves!

The chefs proudly prepared an array of their prestigious provisions - Khinkali; Lamb Kebab; Barbequed Chicken and Beef. All helped down with some ice-cold Ukranian vodka.

Khinkali is common in Georgia, and, as a team who has tried and reviewed it all over Georgia, from Batumi to Baisubani, we didn’t have high expectations. But, as the trays of doughy dumplings were brought out, steaming, diffusing the sun’s rays coming in through the panoramic windows, and carrying the distinct aroma to our nostrils, we knew we were in for something special. They were big. No messing around. the feather-light dough was delicate and delectable, and the first bite to release the sauce - one of the stages of the obligatory process of Khinkali eating – allowed the flavorful, hearty stew inside to flow out. Once we had eaten as many as we could, the remaining few were taken away, fried, and returned to us.

The highlight for us, though, was the barbequed meat. It does not matter how much control you have over yourself, the first bite can overwhelm you; one of our team even blurted something out which we cannot print in this article. Smoke-infused and succulent, the natural flavor of the meat was retained, through some sort of magic, and it made a lasting impression on us. We have yet to find somewhere which comes close; not even our parents’ barbeque could top it!

The place felt comfortable, which made the food taste even better, with its simply-furnished, wooden interior. It inspired friendly conversation, something which is rare these days. Always on hand were the waiting staff, who served us with genuine smiles and were able to recommend with real experience and knowledge. We have nothing but happy memories of our visit, and we can recommend it to you with enthusiasm.
