RESTAURANTS IN THE REGIONS

Georgia is a country that you cannot say you’ve truly experienced until you’ve tried its food – be it Khinkali, Khachapuri, Churchkela, or all of them, the food adds another dimension to your memories. The country’s most popular destinations which travelers tend to find themselves visiting are the cities of Kutaisi, Batumi, Telavi, and Gori. Should you find yourself on the same path, the Where.ge team has compiled a list of our favorite restaurants.

GORI

RESTAURANT GARMAJOBA

Set next to the emerald green hills outside Gori city center, Restaurant Garmajoba is one of the best places to experience Georgian cuisine around Gori, and one of the best restaurants to taste Khinkali in the entire country.

They were brought out steaming, diffusing the sunlight across the table and making our stomachs stomach rumble in preparation. Other traditional dishes are offered, such as Khachapuri (a cheese and egg bread bomb), Lobiani (red beans in bread), and Churchkhela (a dessert in the form of walnuts coated in sweet grapey pulp). Red and white wines, made by the owner, are on the menu too.

Open daily from 10 AM - 11 PM, you can find it on the Uplistsikhe Complex Road (Near Uplistsikhe), Gori.

TELAVI

NADIKVARI TERRACE, TELAVI

We’re firm believers that food always tastes better when its being enjoyed with a view, and at Nadikvari Terrace, it can be enjoyed overlooking the mighty mountains of the Kakheti region. There’s no better place in the town than at the tables of Nadikvari Terrace! Sit inside behind the large, panoramic windows, or in summer enjoy your food and drinks outside in their garden area.

It is a fantastic place to enjoy Georgian food such as Khinkali (meat dumplings) and Acharuli Khachapuri (the egg and cheese boat), which should all be helped down with a bottle of Borjomi - the world-famous Georgian sparkling mineral water. This restaurant not only offers the addictive Georgian water; a modest selection of Georgian wine is available too, some of which have been made in the local region. Unlike many eateries in Georgia, the waiting staff are friendly and serve you with a smile. This makes the experience even more pleasant.

RESTAURANT-CAFE BRAVO, TELAVI

Before paying a visit to this restaurant in Telavi, we received multiple recommendations from the locals. Often, when high expectations of somewhere are preconceived, it rarely lives up to them. This traditional Georgian eatery met- nay, exceeded our expectations; we only wish we had another day to go back! We advise booking in advance, since the place tends to be full of eager customers most evenings.

‘Bravo’, we thought as we left behind our polished plates and empty wine glasses. The menu offers all the Georgian favorites, and some classic European options too, such as pizza, and steak. Our particular favorite was the Khinkali (the famous Georgian dumplings), which were made with a light, thin dough which flutters onto your tongue like a butterfly. As well as a comprehensive food menu, a wide range of drinks are on offer too – from locally-made wines to cocktails, and beers.

Located in the center of the city, it can be reached by foot from most hotels and guest houses. Pop in after a day exploring the town and/or surrounding area, or enjoy a light walk afterwards to walk off that Georgian food!
