Until a couple of nights ago, Lobiani (beans) was my pet peeve of Georgian cuisine. I had never had a good experience eating it since moving here five months ago. Without fail, every single time that I’d tried it there was something off-putting. The taste, the texture, the dryness, the composition — it just wasn’t for me. Thankfully, the stars aligned and I was taken to Keria, where the simple truth about my suffering was laid bare : I’d never had GOOD Lobiani.
My mind was blown. What an explosion of flavor! I was absolutely overwhelmed not only at how good it tasted, but at the absence of a hitherto omnipresent dryness and awkward texture. What’s more, their Lobiani has a unique touch to it: they add what seems to be smoked lard to the beans to provide an amazing aftertaste. Sorry (not sorry) vegetarians, but it seems that life has one-upped you again!
While their Lobiani is reason enough to pay Keria a visit, their Khachapuri and Kubdari are also amazing. Indeed, their Adjaruli Khachapuri (aka “cheese boat”) was, along with the one at Pasanauri, the best I’ve had so far in Georgia.
