"I came to Georgia in 2015 for a food event in Kakheti. Just three years later, the hospitality industry of Tbilisi popped out like a flowering Caucasian renaissance. The food scene has grown fast, bringing a certain twist to the traditions and seeing the opening of some cool innovative places. I am a chef myself. I grew up in Italy and have cooked in busy cities like London, Dubai and New York. Despite the big cultural differences, I’m enjoying discovering not just my new city but also the entire country and I entertain myself in what I consider my favorite foodie spots."
CHATEAU MERE
Owned by my best friend Gia Piradashvili, this beautiful stone castle is my favorite get away spot in Georgia and is also where my love story for this country started. Just a few miles from Telavi, it is a food and wine destination combined with leisure and a fun vibe in a friendly environment. Here is where I meet my closest friends -those I consider my Georgian family -and also many and various interesting people from all around the globe. My topchoices arechakapuli, kachapuri, khinkali and the unforgettable Gia’s bruschetta style antipasto with good Winiveria wine and the latest amazing crafted beer Shantrapa.
UMAMI
I must admit that I play home in this case as I am part of the Radisson Group, but when it comes to
mixing Japanese and Thai with other culinary cultures, this Asian fusion restaurant is definitely my favorite oriental spot in town. They use the freshest ingredients to create both traditional and innovative dishes at a live cooking station and sushi bar. A great atmosphere with a very good service. Watch Chef Alex and his crew for good fun on the teppanyaki.
MEAMA
Situated in the historical center of Tbilisi, here you can enjoy good modern Georgian cuisine sitting on the balcony of a very well-restored traditional house. Brilliant chef and president of the GEO Culinary Association LevanKobiashvili has added to the tradition a very good innovative twist. You can also ask for a professional wine paring with a good selection of local and international wines. Knowing Chef Levan and the owner Irakli personally, I highly recommend the outstanding experience.
CAFE LITERA
Let’s be frank, the first love you never forget. I met the chef-patron Tekuna in August 2015, I still remember the round table in the fabulous rear garden of the Georgian Writers' Union building. A New York trained innovative chef, Tekuna is still my favorite in town. The food is just the expression of her smile and positive attitude, well prepared and complex in its own simplicity. Spot on and accurate service with a sommelier for your wine indulgence, this restaurant is a must for food lovers.
KETO & KOTE
One of the first places I went accompanied by a beautiful local lady more than a year ago. You would never think that at the end of that lane there is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the city like you are sitting on a hanging garden. An old building with traditional Georgian cuisine with a twist. Small kinkhali with pesto sauce and a cheese board with some good wine is my typical Sunday lunch and I can’t resist finishing my meal with Rezo’s extraordinary cakes.
