With this welcome letter to WHERE.ge Dec-Jan issue I would like to wish the best ever New Year to all our foreign friends, tourists and travelers who have already visited, are currently visiting or who will visit our wonderful country in future! Keep reading WHERE.ge – the most trusted and comprehensive guide to your favorite travel destination!
New Year and Christmas celebrations are really quite unique in Georgia. There are many reasons for it, but the one that stands out most is the fact that Georgians celebrate both holidays twice in two weeks!
The Georgian New Year holiday is almost a month long, running from late December to mid-January. In Georgian we call it “Akhali Tslebi” (New Year in plural). When someone here suggests meeting (or partying) “at New Years”, it can mean anything from December 31 to January 14- so be warned that you’re in for some non-stop fun this season!
Fitting to the time of year, Where.ge is jam-packed with seasonal treats, and you’ll find information about the holiday and its respective Georgian traditions in each of the sections: Go, Stay, Eat, Drink and Buy.
Discover the new and old winter resorts throughout Georgia in an article our British freelance journalist Amy Jones appropriately named ‘A Winter’s Dream.’ Georgia is a fast up-and-coming global-choice ski destination. Check out the country’s top resorts for yourself, picking from the central Gudauri and Bakuriani, the northern Svaneti or the coast-side Goderdzi resorts.
Enjoy a beautiful, relaxing or adventurous winter season in Georgia! Celebrate New Year (both “old” and “new”) and find out everything you need to know from WHERE.ge – your trusted and dedicated source for travel tips in Georgia - anytime, anywhere.
And as per tradition, here is my personal choice for each of the WHERE.ge sections:
