Though far from international standards of educational value and variety of animals, the central Tbilisi Zoo makes a nice afternoon out with the kids.
Entrance for toddlers is free, for 6-12-year-olds 1 GEL and for over 12s 2 GEL.
Elephants, lions, tigers, leopards, buffalo, wildebeest, llamas, alpacas, baboons, penguins, vultures and other birds await, as do reptiles and creepy crawlies (a separate charge applies for access to the reptile house).
Where there are signs explaining the animals, they are in Georgian, though around five have been updated in both Georgian and English- the others to follow, we can presume.
There are also a selection of rides for young ones at the entrance and far end of the park- bumper cars, mini roller coasters and the like. There is also a mixed-level wooden adventure park in the trees, face-painting, and a choice of popcorn, candy floss and other sweets throughout, all of which come at extra cost.
