PROSPERO'S BOOKS & CALIBAN'S COFFEE

This cafe-bookshop is as colourful as its name. One of the oldest foreign-owned hangouts in Tbilisi, Prospero's Books remains popular with both tourists and expatriate residents.

Founded by Peter Nasmyth, a Brit who came to Georgia in the 1980s and knows the country from A to Z, Prospero’s Bookshop and Caliban Coffee is well-known and loved for its great choice of books about Georgia and the Caucasus in different languages, a lot of different literature in Georgian, English, Russian and German, guidebooks and study books, board games and photo albums…

And of course, a cozy coffee shop. In all the branches of Prospero’s – be it the first, original one, in a green backyard on Rustaveli Avenue, or two newer ones in the National Archive and near Betsy’s Hotel – there will be always good coffee, with beans imported from as far away as Colombia, Kenya and Indonesia, delicious tea and tasty cakes.

Prospero’s is very comfy as a place to write, read and do some work, too, if you are a freelancer. The atmosphere is usually relaxed and inspiring, as if the writers from the past might whisper something smart from the shelves.
