The Memorial of Georgian Warrior Heroes can be found in Gori, a small city a short drive from Tbilisi. At the foot of the Gori Fortress, visitors can still find warriors seated awaiting battle.
The Memorial of Georgian Warrior Heroes was made between 1981 and 1985 by Georgian sculptor Giorgi Ochiauri. The memorial consists of eight warriors seated in a circle on rough stone blocks. Many of the impressive soldiers are missing body parts, such as arms.
The warriors original home was in Vake Park in Tbilisi as part of the Tbilisi Memorial of Glory, before they were moved to their current home in 2009. To visit the memorial, take a minibus from Didube station in Tbilisi. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach Gori. It’s a short walk from the bus terminal to the Gori Fortress, where you will find the memorial.
