A little paradise of the Samegrelo region, the protected area of Martvili Canyons on Abasha River welcomes guests year-round if the weather’s good. There are two ways to explore it: a pedestrian trail along the upper part of the canyon, and the boat route.
Both of them are pretty doable within one visit. Though, when the glaciers are melting and the water is high in spring, the boat trip is impossible due to the incredible power of the current. A walk along the panoramic trail to look down on the mighty waterfalls is the only option in this case. Young green leaves around you; splashes of cool pure water and tinkly birdsongs bring you to a relaxed, complacent state of mind.
Also, not far from the official entrance to the protected area, there is a place where the locals go to swim. You can reach it even on foot.
