KOKOTAURI & KEDA MUNICIPALITY

The mountainous Keda municipality is famous for its mineral waters, flowing from land rich in clay, decorative stones, timber, copper and gold. The mineral water 'Gundauri' started to be bottled in 2012.

The area is also well-known for its wine, the making of which dates back at least 2000 years here. More than 40 grapes are native to Ajara

A highlight of the Keda municipality is the Kokotauri resort with the wooden Makhuntseti Mosque in the village of Qveda Makhuntseti. In the course of more than 200 years of domination by the Turks, many Ajarans were able to preserve their language and national identity by changing their faith. There are numerous mosques in Ajara where typical features of Islamic and Georgian cultures are combined.
