An exhibition of renowned Georgian painter Gigo Gabashvili opens at Georgian National Museum on December 14. The exposition will be open until March 14, 2018, displaying paintings and graphic works created by the artist, alongside electronic of copies of his photographic works and manuscripts.
The exhibition will also showcase a reconstruction of the room where Gabashvili worked, displaying his personal belongings, some of which are being shown for the first time to the wider public.
Gigo Gabashvili (1862 – 1936) is considered to be one of the founders of New Realism in Georgian painting, his works ranging in theme and genre from portraits to battle scenes, landscapes and still life. Series of his graphic artworks and photographs also introduce Gabashvili’s authentic artistic vision.
While traveling in the Caucasus, he collected the richest collection of ethnographic material which he then donated to the Ethnographic Museum of Georgia. The majority of his paintings are kept in the museum, however, some of his works are among the private collections in Georgia and abroad.
