In the perilous times of the Middle Ages, the Cross of Saint Nino found sanctuary within these sacred walls before finding a permanent home in Tbilisi’s Sioni Church.
Venture inside, and you’ll encounter enthralling examples of 16th-century art, featuring depictions of the Mother of God, the Saviour, John the Baptist, and Saint Nino. Two rather unusual icons, Saavdro (meaning “for bad weather”) and Sadaro (meaning “for good weather”), add a fascinating touch.

The church fills with jubilant people commemorating the arrival of the Icon of the Mother of God from Sioni Church in Tbilisi.
