A cable car connecting Kobi and Gudauri ski resorts has been opened. The 7.5km cable car allows visitors to travel from Stepantsminda to Guduari in just 15 minutes. The cable car will help the region cement its image as an international winter resort.
Georgian Prime Minister Bakhtadze attended the opening ceremony. Speaking at the event, he affirmed, “Georgia will take its place on the global map as a country with the most successful ski resort. The number of tourists has increased by 500 percent in Gudari during last six years. This is a great success but not enough.”
The new route will help visitors to reach Gudauri regardless of landslides and heavy snow, that can cause road closures.
Roughly 81 million GEL from the state budget was allocated to the construction of the cable car. The new route is capable of transporting 2,800 people per hour.
