KARLO KACHARAVA EXHIBITION, DEC 20 - JAN 20

An exhibition of works of Georgian artist Karlo Kacharava is open at the Dimitry Shveradnadze National Gallery, Tbilisi.

Karlo Kacharava, (1964-1994), who is considered one of the most acknowledged contemporary Georgian artists, was also a poet and an art critic. 

The exhibition displays his works from a refreshing context, spread ithroughout two halls of the museum on the ground floor, with the majority of the works oil paintings. 

The first gallery will expose one of his most famous works “The General,” from 1988, which is known as one of the largest paintings he created. Also on show are other romantic–heroic portraits by the artist, while the second gallery is to expose Kacharava’s works together with three young Georgian artists; Nino Kvrivishvili, Levan Chelidze and Giorgi Khaniashvili, alongside documentary photographs taken by Guram Tsibakhashvili.

Karlo Kacharava is said to have paid particular attention to the social issues occurring during his artistic career in 1990s.

In 2017, a Karlo Kacharava painting was included in a group exhibition in New York.

The exhibition is curated by Irina Popiashvili.
