The UK’s BBC Two has included Georgia in a feature-length show of the ongoing popular series ‘Great Continental Railway Journeys’
The show, hosted by Travel Writer and Presenter Michael Portillo, discovers many of the world’s different train journeys, dating back to the early stages of the first human made infrastructure.
The last episode, aired on Thursday in the UK, shows Michael taking the train from Batumi, in Georgia’s Adjara region, all the way through to Baku, Azerbaijan. Along the way, Portillo stops and explores the Georgian cities of Batumi, Kutaisi and Tbilisi; as well as stopping to admire the amazing Caucasian peaks of Mount. Kazbeg.
The programme talks about Georgia’s rich yet complicated history, as he meets locals along the way who explain that Georgia’s viniculture dates back even further than its religion; and is a part of who they are as a people.
This is yet another example of how Georgia is becoming more and more popular with the western world, with abundances of international media now focusing their sights on the small but beautiful country. This is especially important for visitors from the UK, with the two direct air links from London to Georgia already in place, making travel to the country that much more accessible.
