The Harvest Theater Company, Georgia’s first English language theater company, is bringing a new genre of entertainment to the capital. Georgia’s live comedy scene is still nascent. Stand Up Tbilisi has been making waves with its free English language stand up nights at popular bars throughout the city. Now Harvest Theater Company is introducing improvisational comedy, with their first show Thursday, May 31.
Improv comedy is a form of theater where what is performed is unplanned and unscripted. Everything on stage is created spontaneously by the performers.
The Harvest show will be in common format used by TV shows such as Whose Line is it Anyway, where the performers will play games on stage and take inspiration from audience suggestions. The dialogue, stories, and characters will be created collaboratively by the players live onstage, without use of a prepared script.
The mission statement on Harvest Theater Company’s website says: “Based in Tbilisi, Georgia, Harvest Theater Company is an English-language group of performing artists who are passionate about cross-cultural collaborative storytelling. We focus on engaging diverse communities through audience involvement, cooperative education, and accessible theater.” They started operating in January, 2018.
The first improv comedy performance will be on May 31, 8 PM
WHERE: Backstage 76 in Vake Park.
