The Embassy of Italy and the Georgian National Museum have worked successfully in the past, for many years bringing masterpieces to Tbilisi. Well, here we go again. And now with an exhibition focusing on contemporary artists from Italy since the 1950s. As if it's not great enough just to be in Tbilisi, but to have the chance to enjoy the same art as if you were in the Tuscany, well...!
“Time, history, and memory have always represented a fundamental chronographic space for retracing or tracing out the paths of art, for charting the trajectories and consequences of the contemporary art system. The exhibition "Evidence. A New State of Art" aims to provide a concentrated, significant map of the current art scene in Italy,” the museum states.
The exhibition is already open, and strolling through the many different artworks radiates an eerie and nostalgic feeling, throwing one back into the early times of contemporary Italian art. Over 18 artists participate and telling you about all about the different pieces would be an information overload. As so often in contemporary art exhibitions, many artists worked together to create a common message away from their individual mastery, in this case seeing the embracing of themes of time and space: it is up to you to determine which artwork speaks to you best.
Art is the pleasure of the observer’s eye. The many pieces will plunge your eye into a dizzying state of confusion, as many pieces seem alienated from each other despite their alleged dovetail.
