Autumn is the best season to visit the Protected Areas. Pleasant weather, yellow leaves, and autumn colors make Georgia’s nature something truly special to behold- so don’t get stuck in the capital this autumn- put on your warm clothes and comfy boots and head out into nature!

LAGODEKHI PROTECTED AREAS

Lagodekhi was the first Protected Area established in Georgia and as such is distinguished with a unique natural heritage. Its beautiful and thick leaf forest is stunning, especially in autumn.

Lagodekhi Protected Areas offers a wide range of tourist activities including hiking and camping. It’s where you’ll see beautiful waterfalls and ancient fortresses. If you’re a serious hiker, then take the 3-day hiking tour to Black Rock Lake for a breath-taking panoramic view of the Caucasus Mountains.

There are 5 an trails marked on the territory: Rocho Waterfall, Ninoskhevi Waterfall, Machi Fortress, Black Rock Lake and Educational trail for kids.

An extra treat is the deer rut tour, only available in autumn.

 

JAVAKHETI NATIONAL PARK 

Javakheti is not a well-known area of the country for many people and yet it stands out. Luckily for you, we’re telling this to you in its best season- autumn!

Why? Because it’s the time for the bird migration. Check out the Flamingo walking!

There are many lakes on the Javakheti Plateau, including the biggest lake in Georgia – Paravani Lake. You can grab seven different tours here: pedestrian, car, bicycle and horse-riding.  Bird-watching towers are also available as this park is best known for its bird-watching opportunities.

Javakheti Plateau is the coldest place in Georgia and the lakes there become frozen in winter. So, hurry and don’t miss out of the autumn colors and birds!   

 

BORJOM-KHARAGAULI NATIONAL PARK 

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is distinguished for its unique animal and plant species. In autumn, the mountains are bathed in golds, fiery reds and the deep greens of the evergreens.

Ideal for nature lovers, there are 12 marked trails as well as camping areas waiting for you. You can also overnight at a tourist shelter if you check in with a Ranger first.
