In an article recently published on www.global-goose.com author Kelly Dunning offers 25 interesting things to do in Georgia’s capital.
“Looking for things to do in Tbilisi? The capital of Georgia is a bit of a hot commodity at the moment and was listed as Vogue’s 10 hottest travel destinations of 2017,” she writes, noting that there are lots of things to enjoy in Tbilisi and it’s all quite affordable for budget travelers.
“We’ve been blown away by how many fascinating things there are to explore just within the capital city itself,” the author of the article recounts, as she gives recommendations of what to experience in Tbilisi, from visiting Tbilisi State Zakaria Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Theater. “If you love ballet or opera, this is a chance to see a superb performance in a stunning, ornate, beautifully restored classic opera house at a ticket price that would be unheard of in most other European capitals,” the article says, going on to recommend a visit the Flea Market on Dry Bridge,
“It’s very intriguing to walk around and see the many different items for sale. You’ll even find an art section of the market, where local artists set up their original canvases for sale. Take your time to peruse the odd assortment of items – you just might find a treasure to bring home with you,” Dunning writes, moving on to suggest tasting Khinkali, “Even if you came to Tbilisi and all you did was eat Khinkali, it would be worth the trip. These traditional Georgian dumplings are sooo delicious”, she writes.
She then proposes visitors taste Georgian wine: “The winemaking tradition in Georgia dates back over 8,000 years. That’s kind of amazing when you wrap your head around it. That means the Georgians were producing wine when mammoths were still around, 5,000 years before Stonehenge was built,” Dunning says. Her top must-tries are wine venues 8000 Vintages, Vinomania and G.Vino.
Her recommendations go on. Among her selections are: Fabrika, Tbilisi Funicular, the Tbilisi Rezo Gabriadze Puppet Theater, Thermal Baths, Sameba Cathedral, Zurab Tsereteli Museum of Modern Art, Prosperos Books, Tbilisi Cable Car, Kashveti Church, Old Tbilisi streets, the Soviet Occupation Museum, Narikala Fortress, the King Vakhtang Gorgasali Statue, Metekhi Church, Dinamo Tbilisi stadium, the Georgian National Museum, Mother of Georgia Monument, Meidan Bazaar, Rike Park, and Begemot Coffee and Books.
