AUSTRIAN-RUN HELI-SKIING TO KICK-OFF IN GEORGIA

The Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia has licensed Austrian company Wucher Helicopter GmbH to perform flights in Georgian mountainous resorts.

Helicopter skiing is a type of extreme sport which uses a helicopter to transfer skiers and snowboarders into otherwise inaccessible off-trail areas. Adventure tourism followers often book tours in advance, before the winter season begins.

Wucher Helicopter GmbH will carry out flights to Gudauri, Mestia and Goderdzi ski resorts from January 15 to April 15; the flights will be carried out by three AS 350 B3 Ecureuil modern helicopters.

The flights will start operating at Goderdzi (mountainous Ajara) ski resort on January 18.

Wucher Helicopter GmbH is not the first foreign helicopter company to launch flights to Georgian mountainous resorts. German HTM Helicopter Travel Munich GmbH have operated flights since January 2018.

Wucher Helicopter GmbH will offer flights to small tourist groups, including heli-skiing tours. This will allow skiing and snowboarders enthusiasts to experience fresh and untouched snow in the region. The airline’s operation will foster the winter tourism development in Georgia and draw foreign tourists to the Georgian ski resorts by creating maximum comfort to them.
