SAGHAMO LAKE

Paravani’s Younger Sister

A few kilometers from Georgia’s biggest lake, Paravani Lake, Saghamo Lake is often overlooked by visitors. However, surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains and green plains, Saghamo lake is just as stunning as its bigger, more famous sister.

Located in Samtskhe-Javakheti in south-east Georgia, the lake covers an area of 458 hectares. Birds of prey circle above its waters, whilst fishermen peacefully sit on its banks waiting for their next catch. Saghamo Lake is a place of calm and tranquility where you can enjoy the stunning wilderness of Georgia.

On the eastern bank of the lake, lies the small village of Saghamo where you can buy local supplies. However, be aware that there are no hotels or guesthouses near the lake. If you would like to stay close by, the town of Ninotsminda offers accommodation options. To fully enjoy the lake, you should visit May - September to avoid the heavy snowfall in the region during winter.
