POKA NUNNERY

The Poka Nunnery is a lovely, peaceful spot on the shoes of Lake Paravani in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of southern Georgia.

The nunnery is home to a cloister of nuns who maintain the 11th century church on the property and make and sell several local products. The nuns sell a stunning variety of jams, crackers, chocolates, honey, vodka, bread, enamel, and mosaic - but they are most famous for their cheeses.

Traditionally, different parts of Georgia made different cheese and there were hundreds of varieties but today much of that diversity is lost. One of the few places that maintain a wide and unique variety of cheese is Poka Nunnery. Stop by if you're in the area! It's a beautiful place to relax, buy gifts or souvenirs, and even have lunch.
