GIORGI LEONIDZE STATE MUSEUM OF LITERATURE

Found on the slopes of the Mtatsminda hills in Tbilisi, the Giorgi Leonidze State Museum of Literature provides an interesting insight into Georgia’s literary legacy.

The museum was founded by the legendary museum founder David Arsensishvili in 1930. With around 130,000 manuscripts, 27,000 photos and over 2000 paintings, the museum houses some of the most important cultural works of Georgian writers and artists. Visitors can also see personal items belonging to some of Georgia’s most prominent writers such as Ilia Chavchavadze, Akaki Tsereteli, Vaja Pshavela, Ivane Machebeli, Alexandre Kazbegi, Titsian Tabidze, and Galaktion Tabidze, among others.

Today, the museum houses short-term and long-term exhibitions, as well as various events, performances, and movie screenings. Operating as a publishing house, the Giorgi Leonidze State Museum continues to play an important role in Georgian literature.
