THE GIORGI CHUBINASHVILI TELAVI STATE MUSEUM

Nestled inside the Batonis-Sikhe (castle) complex, you'll find the Giorgi Chubunashvili Museum (Giorgi was an art historian).

Founded in 1927, it is housed in several halls of King Erekle II’s former Palace and a separate building behind it, built in more recent times. The palace itself is quite bare, though the size and aura are worth experiencing- especially the grand 'throne room.' Let your imagination run wild as you picture the battles planned and the visits of Persian Royals.

The second building houses numerous archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic and textile artifacts in dusty glass cabinets likely unchanged since the Soviet times. Without a doubt, it makes a nice pop-in on your tour through Kakheti.
