D. KAKABADZE FINE ART GALLERY, KUTAISI

The David Kakabadze Fine Art Gallery in Kutaisi displays a selection of paintings and sculptures from Georgian artists. The gallery houses beautiful works from Niko Pirosmani, one of Georgia’s most prominent 19th century artists. His works, depicting the social conditions of his time, became famous after his death.

Named after David Kakabadze, a celebrated Georgian avant-garde painter, visitors can unsurprisingly view various works by the famed painter. Kakabadze painted many pieces on Imereti landscapes and produced set designs with theater director Kote Marjanishvili.

Although small in comparison to galleries in Tbilisi, the museum offers a valuable insight into Georgian art. Staff at the museum are friendly, although their English language skills are limited. There are two rooms with a mixture of works from both well-known and lesser-known Georgian artists. Entrance costs around 2 GEL with discounts for children and schoolchildren.
