MADE FROM SCRATCH AT HUMMUSBAR

REVIEW

A few years ago, Tbilisi had the reputation as a rather unfriendly place for vegetarians and vegans. But in the last few years, more and more vegetarian places are opening, adding to the diversity of the Georgian cuisine.

For the conscious eaters in town, one must-visit place in town is the Hummusbar, hidden on the second floor of a traditional Italian yard near Vera park. Opened in 2016, Hummusbar offers a wide variety of well-known Middle Eastern dishes: hummus with different toppings, msabaha, shakshuka, baba ganoush, tabouli salad and more. All options are organic and gluten-free. On Saturday the restaurant also has a special brunch menu!

Visitors have first to ring the bell downstairs and go up the wooden spiral staircase. It feels like entering a private house, and indeed, the restaurant itself gives a very homey and cozy feeling.

The main room is an indoor balcony full of windows, with just a few tables. The staff is always friendly and communicative, especially when it comes to the origins of the products and of their vision of healthy food.

“We do everything fresh from scratch on demand! We serve and bring the vegetarian dining experience to a fresh, new and delicious level.” said the owners. They promise to give “bite of nature” to the hungry visitors.Hummusbar reopened on September 11 after the summer break. It is open from Monday to Saturday from 12.00 to 22.00. All dishes can be taken out at the same prices than in the menu.
